Sustainability

The Town is developing a new Integrated Community Sustainability Plan.  The planning process is detailed here and is being termed TBM Future Story.  We need your input through the three phases of plan creation.

Please visit TBM Future Story for more details.

A Town Sustainability Plan was last created in 2010, for a text version of The Sustainable Path Document following link: The Blue Mountains Sustainable Path.  Print copies of the Sustainable Path are available by contacting the Town.

The Blue Mountains Sustainability Fund (Susty Fund) was created with the goal to advance sustainability in the Town. Funds are awarded to improve the Town’s environmental performance, foster sustainability literacy and community engagement, advance climate change adaption and mitigation, and demonstrate the viability of sustainability technologies.

Proposed projects must support the goals and objectives outlined in The Sustainable Path and must be consistent with the major planning documents of the Town including the Strategic Plan. The fund accepts small or large project proposals from charity and non-profit groups from or doing work in the Town. Approximately $5,000.00 will be available for each application intake to be allocated amongst successful proposals, and there will be one intake each year. The Budget Template, Proposal Form and Terms of Reference are available for download.

Submission Due Date: December 14, 2020 at midnight

Energy – We have a Plan for That!

Municipal operations use energy and contribute to a carbon footprint. The Town has created a Plan that works towards understanding the Town’s impact and reducing that impact.

The Town's full Energy Conservation and Management Plan will guide energy planning and reduction initiatives.

In addition to the Energy Conservation and Management Plan, the Town, along with all Ontario municipalities are tracking building energy use. Tracking and planning work towards energy conservation and ultimately greenhouse gas reductions. Improving equipment operation, retrofitting lighting and equipment, modifying behaviour and relying more on renewable energy sources are part of the Town’s strategies to conserve energy, mitigate climate change and save money.
